A Vijay-starrer comes after a long gap, and it's the remake of the Telugu film by the same name. Wielding the megaphone is Prabhu Deva, who, after two films in Telugu, debuts in Tamil as a director.
The story centeres on two gangs on a warpath, with Thamizh, a mercenary, siding with the highest bidder for his services, that of the gang headed by Guru.
A name that constantly crops up is that of Guru's mentor Ali Bai, the dreaded gangster who is in hiding in Dubai. The killing of his lieutenant draws the don to India to plan his next move. Till he learns that there is a mole in his camp, and that the killing of Guru was a planned one to lure him to the Indian shores.
Vijay goes through the whole gamut of action with practised ease, for it's similar to the roles and films he's done arlier. Asin cuts a pretty picture, but the hangover of 'Ghajini' seems to be there and the tendency to be repetitive in her expressions and mannerisms. Some of the Vijay-Asin encounters are plain lagging, the pair already having a stale look.
